How money can distract young players

The FIFA Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed the banning of transfers activities for Barcelona FC for a year. The Catalan team was found guilty in breaking the law related to the signing of under-aged players.

The current law only permits transfers of under 18 foreign players in three cases:
1. If their parents have moved to that country for non-football reasons.
2. If they are from the European Union and age between 16 and 18.
3. If they live 100 km near the club.

We consider this ruling a positive one because it prevents young players for being exposed too early to the pressure of big contracts, and media exposure. Let children be children and develop their skills from their homelands.

Getting too much to soon influences the psychology of young players and makes them consider themselves as super stars before gaining any footballing success.

Being rich overnight is difficult to adapt with people so young and usually from poor backgrounds. It's not uncommon to hear about scandals in the press: car crushes, alcohol issues, marital problems.

A lot of money in the bank makes them financially secure and that puts players in a comfort zone and stops them from improving themselves.

  1. In an age of recession where "normal" people are suffering from big government cut-backs and struggle to pay the daily bills, football clubs seem to have more and more money to spend on players.Last summer in the premiership teams spent a total of reaching £835 million on new recruitments.Manchester United , a club synonymous with incorporating its youth policies and promoting from the academy last August spent £62 million on one player as a reaction to their poor previous season finishing 7th. Football clubs used to represent the fans, (the customers),the local communities , now with big international sponsorships. high television income and big foreign investment, the fans are now secondary in the priorities of most clubs, this is shown by how much the ticket prices have increased in the last 20 years, a staggering 1000% with a lot of spectators being prices out of the game.
